Sad news to report. Popular musician and GENERAL HOSPITAL alum Ricky Martin (ex-Miguel) has announced that he and his husband, Jwan Yosef, are divorcing after six years of marriage.
“After careful consideration, we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect, and dignity toward ourselves and our children — preserving and honoring what we have experienced as a couple over these wonderful years,” the couple wrote in a joint statement in Spanish posted to Instagram. “Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on our genuine friendship, while we share the upbringing of our children.
“As always, we appreciate all the love and support we have received during our marriage,” they concluded. “We are in total tranquility and peace to start this new chapter of our lives.”
Martin launched his career as a member of the pop group Menudo back in 1983 and after leaving in 1989, transitioned into an acting career, appearing in telenovelas and releasing his first solo album. In February 1994, he made his debut on GH as Miguel Morez and became very popular with fans, despite only appearing on the soap for a couple of years.
In August 2008, Martin became a father to twin boys named Matteo and Valentino via a surrogate. In March 2010, he publicly came out as gay and confirmed his relationship with Syran-Swedish painter Yosef in April 2016. After announcing that they were engaged in November of that year, Martin then later admitted in January 2018 that they had secretly tied the knot.
Martin and Yosef then welcomed their first daughter together in December 2018, named Lucia, and in October 2019, the couple shared the first photo of them with their newborn son, Renn.
