General Hospital Spoilers: Sofia Mattsson Memorializes Johnny Wactor At The Daytime Emmys

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Sofia Mattsson (Sasha Gilmore) remembered her late costar Johnny Wactor at the Daytime Emmys which aired June 7, 2024. Wactor was shot and killed in late May by suspects tampering with his vehicle.

The cast and crew of the ABC sudser were heartbroken by the news as were fans who have memorialized the one-of-a-kind actor on social media.

At the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards Mattsson told People that she and Wactor “shared so many great memories, so many tears and laughter on and off screen.”

Johnny Wactor died on May 25 at age 37. He had left his downtown LA job in the early morning hours and was escorting a female coworker to her car when they found three suspects trying to steal the catalytic converter from Wactor’s vehicle.

According to his mother Scarlett, Wactor was not aggressive with the suspects and was shielding his colleague when he was shot once, point blank in the chest. The thieves fled the scene and the LAPD has not yet apprehended the suspects.

Mattsson played his Wactor’s on-screen wife and recalled that he was friendly and “super goofy” the kind of person who “made you feel so comfortable and at home.”

She also shared her favorite memory of Wactor who starred in nearly 200 episodes before his character was killed off the show.

She said “I really loved when we had a storyline when we lost our baby, because that was just something we really went through together.”

“And it was so beautiful, watching him make the reality of becoming a father, to a reality for himself. So that was really just cool to see, how much he just dived into that role, and made it real for himself.”

Wactor’s credits include NCIS, Westworld, and Criminal Minds. Following his Wactor’s death, his fans, colleagues and loved ones expressed their shock and grief on social media.

This is what Mattson shared: “I admire the man he was so much and I’m a better person for having known him. We shared so many special moments, both on and off screen, and I will forever cherish them deeply in my heart,” she continued. “You will be so incredibly missed Johnny… I’m sure you’re already busy taking care of everyone up there ❤️.”
