“Well, accepting these flowers is bittersweet. But I know that Sonya would only relish in the sweet,” he said.

Ford thanked General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini “for being a faithful friend” and recognized the cast and crew of the show “for embracing her for 16 years.”

“I want to thank the Academy for acknowledging her contribution and craft. Sonya never aspired to be an actor,” he said. “And while her talent was undeniable, I’m sure that she was more overjoyed for being remembered for how she made people feel onscreen and off.”

Eddy played nurse Epiphany Johnson on the long-running soap opera, beginning in 2006. Her final episode was on Oct. 20, 2022. The soap opera’s official account on X, formally known as Twitter, congratulated the actress soon after the award was announced.
